COLUMBUS, Ohio – Members of the Ohio State men’s gymnastics staff, as well as three gymnasts who train at OSU, will travel for the 2004 Visa American Cup. The annual event will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Madison Square Garden in New York City; it will be broadcast live on NBC Sports from 4-6 p.m.

Buckeye head coach Miles Avery and assistant coaches Doug Stibel and Arnold Kvetenadze, along with former Buckeye Blaine Wilson (1994-97), defending world all-around champion Paul Hamm and Morgan Hamm, will join the U.S. contingent for the event; Jason Gatson is the final U.S. competitor. Wilson, the defending men’s all-around champion, has won the event five times in his career.

The event, which has both a men’s and a women’s competition, features four of America’s stars challenged by four of the world’s best gymnasts for the all-around title and a total prize purse of $45,000. Each male and female all-around champion wins $10,000.

“This is typically one of the big international competitions,” Avery said. “This gets the guys on the team thinking about Athens and the Olympics this summer.”
