Buckeye Men and Women Compete at St. John’s



COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State fencing programs competed in the St. John’s Invitational Saturday in the first team action of 2022. The Buckeye men were 2-2 on the day, with wins over St. John’s and Harvard and losses to Notre Dame and Columbia. The women topped the Red Storm and fell to the Crimson, Irish and Lions. The Buckeye women are 12-5 this year, with the men now 12-4.

Ohio State will wrap up the weekend at the Philadelphia Invitational hosted by UPenn Sunday. The Buckeyes are scheduled to face NYU at 8:30 a.m., Yale (men) and Temple (women) at 9:45 a.m., Penn at 11 a.m., Columbia at 1 p.m. and Princeton at 2:15 p.m.

The Buckeye men’s sabre squad was undefeated on the day (4-0), while epee was 3-1. Foil led the women’s squad with a perfect 4-0 day, while sabre and epee each picked up one squad win.

Roscoe Swartz led the sabre squad with a 9-3 mark, compiling the most wins for the men on the day. Nolan Williams notched seven wins to lead sabre and Diego Cervantes led foil with four wins. Gabriel Feinberg was 6-1 for men’s epee, with Paul Veltrup second with a 5-1 record.

Alina Lee was 8-2 to pace women’s foil and share the women’s lead with Julieta Toledo, who was 8-4 in sabre. Camilla Rivano had six victories in women’s foil and Eva Mazur led women’s epee with six victories.
