FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – The Central Collegiate Hockey Association announced today that sophomore forward Matt Beaudoin of Ohio State University has been named the RBC Financial Group CCHA Player of the Month for January.
Beaudoin, a 20-year old from Rock Forest, Que., had a team-leading 14 points and nine goals to lead the Buckeyes to a 6-2-0 record in January, while averaging 1.8 points and 1.1 goals a game. He had points in six of eight games, including three three-point games and a pair of two-point performances with seven power-play markers, a shorthanded goal and three game-winning goals. He produced 10 of his points with his team enjoying a man advantage as the Buckeyes converted on 15-of-44 chances in January for a 34.1 percent success rate with a power-play unit ranked first in the CCHA and sixth in the nation.
Beaudoin started the month with a two-goal, three-point effort in a 3-1 win over visiting Ferris State and finished the month with two more two-goal, three-point performances as the Buckeyes swept Western Michigan by scores of 4-3 and 7-0 at Value City Arena. In between, he contributed a goal and an assist in a 4-1 road win over Notre Dame, fired the winning goal and set up another goal in a 4-1 home-ice victory over Michigan and added a power-play goal in a 6-3 loss to the Wolverines.
The reigning CCHA Offensive Player of the Week, Beaudoin has registered a career-high 15-9-24 in 26 games this season and carries a four-game goal-scoring streak into February.
Special mention for RBC Financial Group CCHA Player of the Month honors goes to Michigan sophomore forward T.J. Hensick, Nebraska-Omaha sophomore goalie Chris Holt, Northern Michigan senior goalie Tuomas Tarkki and Michigan State sophomore goalie Dominic Vicari.
