COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State hockey team announced today that Peter Broccoli (Milford, Conn./ Compuware Ambassadors) has signed a national letter of intent to play hockey at Ohio State beginning in the fall of 1999.%^$

%^$”Were extremely excited about Peter Broccoli choosing Ohio State,” OSU head coach John Markell said. “He was heavily recruited by several schools, and hell fit in well with our systems that are already in place. With his skating ability, he has the ability to step in and contribute immediately. Hes a gritty competitor that will play the physical game, but at the same time has loads of offensive ability.”%^$

%^$Broccoli, known as an offensive defenseman and likened to current Buckeye and all-CCHA pick Andre Signoretti by the OSU coaching staff, comes to Ohio State after two seasons with the Compuware Ambassadors of the North American Hockey League. Broccoli was the teams second highest scoring defenseman this season with five goals and 24 assists in 51 games and was named to the NAHL North All-Star Team. The Ambassadors captured the NAHL regular season title, and are one game away from capturing the playoff title in a three-game series against the St. Louis Sting. Broccoli has been extremely impressive in the playoffs, ranking fourth on the team – first among defenseman – in postseason scoring with one goal and six assists.%^$

%^$”I was impressed with everything about Ohio State – the facilities, the campus, the city of Columbus,” Broccoli said. “The coaching staff is really easy going and seems to relate well to the players. Value City Arena is an unbelievable facility and played a big part in my decision. I got along well with the other players, too. I cant wait to start playing in the fall.” %^$

%^$Broccoli, who stands 5-8 and weighs 170 pounds, was also a regular defenseman for Compuware last season, totaling five goals and 15 assists in 65 games. He choose Ohio State over New Hampshire, North Dakota, and Colorado College.%^$
