We are fortunate to represent an institution like The Ohio State University and have the ability to support one of the nation’s most comprehensive and successful athletic programs. Your contributions to Ohio State Athletics allows us to continue providing a world-class academic and athletic experience to over 1,000 Buckeye student-athletes across 36 varsity programs, spirit squads and the band.
In recent years, we have excelled in one of the most notable conferences in intercollegiate athletics, the Big Ten, and none of this would be possible without devout supporters like you. Fully funded through philanthropy, Phase I of the Athletics District is complete. The new Schumaker Complex, Covelli Center, Jennings Wrestling Facility, Schottenstein Drive expansion and sustainability initiatives will collectively serve as competition and training centers that impact nearly all of our varsity programs.
It is an exciting time here in Columbus as we enter Phase II of the Athletics District master plan. This phase will include an indoor track and training center, a lacrosse stadium, The Ty Tucker Tennis Center, a renovation to the Woody Hayes Athletic Center, a renovation to the Bill Davis Baseball Stadium and additional outdoor practice fields. The second phase of the Athletics District master plan will play a pivotal role in furthering the development of our student-athletes by ensuring they have access to the top facilities and resources in the country.
In 2019, the Department of Athletics is expected to transfer over $27 million to the university to support the academic and athletic endeavors of our student-athletes through grant-in-aid scholarships. The Ohio State Department of Athletics operates a self-sustaining budget, receiving no university general funds, student fees or state tax support. Through the private support of our loyal and generous donors, we can provide student-athletes with the opportunities they need to succeed, and consistently compete for the best and brightest student-athletes to represent this distinguished university and the great state of Ohio.
If you are a current Buckeye Club member, I would like to thank you for your generous support. Your contributions change the lives of every student-athlete that dons the Scarlet and Gray. If you are not a current member, I encourage you to support our beloved Buckeyes by joining today. As we move forward, it will take the entirety of Buckeye Nation to ensure that our student-athletes have the resources they need to be not only great students and competitors but also great people.
Thank you for taking the time to be a champion for our Buckeyes.
