Wrapping up another busy week in Buckeye athletics … 

We’re Ohio State. We don’t upset anyone. We win! Congratulations to the women’s basketball team for their awesome Sweet 16 victory over UConn Saturday afternoon in Seattle, 73-61. The team plays Virginia Tech tonight at 9 p.m. on ESPN for a Final Four appearance.

Congratulations to the synchronized swimming team, which earned its second consecutive national title, and 34th in program history, Saturday at the 2023 U.S. Collegiate Championships in Westmont, Ill. Nikki Dzurko (Solo), Ruby Remati (A Figures) and the team of Emily Armstrong/Remati (Duet) all won national titles. Coach Holly Vargo Brown was named the 2023 U.S. Collegiate Coach of the Year for the seventh time.

The men’s hockey team advanced to the East Regional final after an opening round NCAA win over Harvard, 8-1, but their season ended one game short of the Frozen Four with a 4-1 loss yesterday to overall No. 2 seed Quinnipiac. The team finishes 21-16-3 overall.

The fencing teams combined to place fifth at the NCAA Championships for the second consecutive year.

Led by a national championship on the 1-meter springboard from Lyle Yost, the men’s swimming and diving team finished 11th at the 2023 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships, held in Minneapolis.

Women’s tennis swept Purdue Friday at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center and Northwestern in Evanston to improve to 12-5 overall and 5-0 in the Big Ten Conference.

The men’s volleyball team had three big wins this past week to improve to 15-9 on the season and 7-3 in the MIVA. Included was a huge, 3-2, win over No. 1 Penn State on the road.

Softball’s winning streak reached 12 games last week before an extra-inning defeat to Michigan yesterday. The Buckeyes came right back in front of nearly 2,000 fans at Buckeye Field to defeat Michigan, 11-2, in Game 2 to improve to 19-8 on the season and 1-1 in the Big Ten. The rubber game of this series is today at 4 p.m. We hope to see you there!

Softball vs. TTUN 2023

Men’s tennis defeated Illinois for the third time this season to improve to 19-2 overall and 2-0 in the Big Ten.

Sunday night in a nationally televised game on BTN, the men’s lacrosse team defeated No. 6 Rutgers, 11-7, in front of a packed house at the Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium (att.: 2,331) to move to 5-4 overall and 1-0 in the Big Ten.

Men’s & Women’s track & field competed at the Raleigh Relays with Addie Engel (5,000 meters) and Danielle Santos (10,000) each breaking outdoor school records.

Rowing opened its 2023 season this weekend at the IVY/Big Ten Dust Up on the Cooper River outside of Cherry Hill, N.J. The Buckeyes captured victories in three races in three of five races in their dual vs. Harvard-Radcliffe.
