COLUMBUS, Ohio — Former Ohio State men’s lacrosse captain and All-American Kevin Buchanan scored a goal to help the Boston Cannons win their first Major League Lacrosse championship Sunday afternoon at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Md.
The Cannons defeated the Hamilton Nationals in the championship, 10-9, to earn the Steinfeld Trophy. Boston came from behind to defeat Chesapeake, 14-13, in the semifinals Saturday, with Buchanan also scoring a goal in that contest.
This season, Buchanan played in nine regular-season games for the Cannons and had 20 goals (one two-point goal) and five assists for 26 points, ranking sixth on the team. He has played in 36 regular-season MLL games in his career since 2008, with 55 goals, 27 assists and 85 points.
A Buckeye from 2005-08, Buchanan was named second team All-American his senior year and was the 2008 Great Western Lacrosse League Player of the Year. His 175 points rank third in Ohio State history.
