COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior Brad Smith was named Co-Big Ten Golfer of the Week the conference office announced Wednesday. The weekly honor is Smith’s second of his career and the first for the Buckeyes this season.
Smith earned first place at the FAU Spring Break Championship to lead the 24th-ranked Buckeyes to a first-place finish. Smith and four teammates bested 16 other schools with a team score 12-under 852 on the par 72, 6,750-yard Legends Golf Course at the Gleneagles Country Club in Delray Beach, Fla.
The Peru, Ind., product shot an 8-under 208 during the 54-hole tournament to secure medalist honors for the first time in his career. Smith shot a 1-under 71 in the first round and followed with a 2-under 70 in round two. He concluded the three-day tournament with a 5-under 67 in the third round, tying his lowest 18-hole score of the season.
Smith carded 13 birdies at the conclusion of the tournament, including six on day two and five on day three.
The Buckeyes will take a couple weeks off before traveling to Urbana, Ill., for the Illinois Spring Classic April 16-17.
