Final Stats

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The recipe for the Ohio State field hockey team on Monday was the same as it’s been for the first two weeks of the 2021 season: Timely scoring coupled with strong defense mixed in good goalkeeping. In the end, it equaled a 1-0 victory over Miami at Buckeye Varsity Field.

The Short Story
Ohio State broke a scoreless tie with five minutes into the fourth quarter on a blistering shot off the stick of Leanne Bough – her second goal of the season – and the Buckeyes made it stand up for the remaining 10 minutes of regulation.

The defense in front of goalie Aaliyah Hernandez allowed just six shots and the senior from Virginia Beach, Va. finished with five saves for her first shutout of the season.

The Buckeyes improved to 3-1 on the season and won back-to-back games for the first time this fall. All three of their wins have come by one goal.

This and That

  • Through three quarters, Ohio State outshot Miami 10-2 but couldn’t put one past RedHawk goalie Isabelle Perese, who finished the afternoon with seven saves.
  • Freshman Hallie Brost was credited with an assist on Bough’s goal. It was the first point of her career.
  • Seven different players registered a shot on Monday afternoon, led by Bough who had seven shots and three on goal.
  • Monday’s game was the 48th all-time meeting between Ohio State and Miami. The Buckeyes lead the series 39-8-1 with wins in nine of the last 11 contests.
