COLUMBUS, Ohio – Freshman Leanne Bough was named to the U.S. U-21 Women’s National Team, USA Field Hockey announced today. After three days of training at Spooky Nook Sports in Lancaster, Pa., the U.S. Women’s National Team Junior High Performance Staff announced the 2020 roster.
“I am excited to represent myself and Ohio State at the next level. It is an honor to be chosen and I am looking forward to learning from and playing with some of the best field hockey athletes in the United States,” Bough said.
There are 60 total individuals named to the USWNT this year. Training will begin for the U-21 team next month in Chula Vista, Calif. The team will then meet again in March to train along side the other Women’s Junior National Teams in North Carolina. These trainings are all meant to prepare the team for the Junior Pan American Championship that will take place November 30 to December 13 in Chile. Bough will be training under familiar leadership, as Ohio State head coach Jarred Martin will also lead the group of 60 young women as the U-21 USWNT head coach.
The Whitney Point, N.Y. native had an outstanding freshman campaign for the Buckeyes. Playing at midfield, she had notched two goals on the season and one assist to combine for five points and helped the Scarlet and Gray secure five shutout victories this season. Prior to Ohio State, she led the Eagles to five straight state championship and was a three-time captain. She has previously earned a spot on the U17 National Team in 2017 and was selected for the U19 National Team in 2019.
