COLUMBUS, Ohio — Jacob Bosiokovic, a redshirt junior on the Ohio State baseball team, nabbed the first Big Ten Player Week honor and also was named a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week, the conference office and Collegiate Baseball announced Monday. Bosiokovic, a native of Delaware, Ohio, earns his first player of the week honor and becomes the first Buckeye since the 2009 campaign to be recognized as a national player of the week.

Bosiokovic, who missed the majority of 2015 due to injury, returned to the Buckeye lineup in grand fashion and had a monster weekend at the dish. The OSU right fielder helped the Scarlet and Gray to a 3-0-1 record to open the 2016 season, posting wins against Niagara, Pitt and Toledo. He batted .412 (7-for-17) with seven runs scored, eight RBI, three home runs, including a two-run, game-tying and three-run walk-off dinger vs. Niagara, three walks, one hit by pitch and one sac fly. He led the Buckeyes with a .941 slugging percentage and a .529 on-base percentage to become the first B1G Player of the Week honor since 2014 (Nick Sergakis, April 14, 2014).

He leads the Big Ten in runs scored (7), RBI (8), total bases (16) and home runs (3) after the opening weekend of baseball. You can watch one of the three towering long balls, the walk-off homer off the left field foul pole at legendary Holman Stadium in Historic Dodgertown, right here. The 6-5, fourth-year Buckeye was greeted with a warm welcome from his teammates at home plate in the team’s second victory of the early season.

The last Buckeye to be honored as a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week: Alex Wimmers in 2009.
