The Buckeyes hopped on the bus for the first road trip of the season today. Before they left, senior co-captain Cory Schneider blogged about the team’s schedule and practice – and food – this week.

Ohio State will face No. 2-ranked Notre Dame at 7:05 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the Joyce Center on the Notre Dame campus. Links to the radio feed and live stats can be found on the men’s hockey schedule page on will have a webstream Friday, with Comcast in Michigan televising the Saturday contest.

Read on for Cory’s adventures the first part of this week:

Monday morning at 8 a.m. came very early for everyone. Most guys still looked asleep as we were getting dressed for practice. However, despite that, we came out ready to go for practice and the intensity and compete levels were very high. It was a great start to the week for us and a good response after the loss Saturday night. Post practice on Mondays we have a 30-45 minute lift and then everyone heads off to class, tutors or home for a quick nap.

We started off Tuesday’s practice right where we left off on Monday – great intensity and sharpness by everyone. We had a few defense vs. forward competition drills today and of course the forwards came out victorious in both. Tough break for the D as they had a little skate at the end for losing to us. We don’t lift on Tuesdays so most guys will take care of their bodies after practice by biking, stretching and/or taking an ice bath. Tuesday is always an exciting day for the boys of our apartment complex because it is taco Tuesday. For taco Tuesday we rotate cooking duties between the three apartments that are right next to each other. It was mine and Duddy’s turn to cook this week so naturally, the meal was superb. Tacos were enjoyed by Alex Szczechura, Travis Statchuk, Cal Heeter and Danny Dries. Dries also set a new Tuesday record by eating seven tacos. After relaxing for a bit it was time for some quick homework and an early bedtime because the 6:15 a.m. alarm goes off awfully early.

Wednesday’s practices are usually a bit shorter than Monday’s and Tuesday’s as we really start to prepare for the upcoming weekend series. A big focus on Wednesdays is special teams so we spend a lot of time working on both our power play and penalty kill. The pace today was excellent and you could definitely sense everyone was getting excited for the first road trip of the season because it is only a day away. After practice we had a quick 20-30 minute lift and then it’s off to class once again. Tonight for dinner we had a Thanksgiving dinner in honor of the Canadian Thanksgiving holiday that was earlier in the week. Food coma is definitely setting in as I write this after the meal so its time for me to pack for the trip and get some sleep. Fortunately we aren’t leaving until noon and we will be practicing at Notre Dame, so we will all be able to sleep in a little bit tomorrow. I’ll be back with another blog next week to wrap up the weekend. Thanks everyone for following along and supporting OSU hockey. Go Bucks! – Cory
