COLUMBUS, Ohio – Blaz Rola, a freshman on the Ohio State men’s tennis team, advanced to the semifinals of the National Indoor Intercollegiate championships Friday. Rola, who hails from Ptuj, Slovenia, won back-to-back matches at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y., to extend his winning streak to nine.

In his first match of the day, Rola handed Sebastian Fanselow of Pepperdine a 6-3, 6-2 defeat before winning a tightly contested 6-4, 7-6 (1) decision against Texas A&M’s Austin Krajicek. Rola will now face seventh seed Steve Johnson of USC Saturday.

Nearly 24 hours ago Chase Buchanan rallied from a 5-3 second-set deficit to win in straight sets 6-2, 7-5, against No. 14 Tucker Vorster of Mississippi, but could not piece together the same result Friday as he dropped a 6-3, 6-4 match to Gonzalo Escobar of Texas Tech.

In the Friday morning action, Matt Allare and Peter Kobelt had their seven-match win streak snapped when the duo dropped a close 8-6 decision to Texas A&M’s Jeff Dadamo and Krajicek, who are the fourth-ranked doubles tandem in the ITA preseason rankings.
