COLUMBUS, Ohio – Goalkeeper Allison Blanton (Sr., Newton, NJ) was named the Most Valuable Player of the field hockey team at its annual awards banquet April 13 at the newly remodeled recruitment room in Ohio Stadium.

Blanton was named MVP by vote of her teammates. She was a 2001 Division I regional All-American, a member of the Big Ten All-Conference first team and co-MVP of the Big Ten Tournament. The 2001 NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad member also took home The Ohio State University Harriet B. Reynolds Award for achieving the highest team GPA.

Defender Jennifer Van Kirk (Jr., Lititz, PA) was given the team Unsung Hero Award by her teammates. The award, given to a player who was instrumental in the team’s success but whose efforts were not recognized through the media, honored Van Kirk for her defensive contributions.

In addition to the two team awards, two miniature Big Ten All-Conference trophies were presented to All Americans Marije van Nouhuys (Sr. Biltoven, Netherlands), Vanessa Immordino (So., Roseland, NJ).

The Ohio State field hockey team, which captured its first Big Ten regular season and tournament championship in the 30-year history of the program, ended its spring season as participants in the Mercian Spring League on Sunday, April 14.
