Columbus, Ohio – The Big Ten conference released the 2004 women’s soccer conference tournament bracket Monday. Following an off day Saturday, Nov. 6, the tournament resumes Sunday, Nov. 7 with the championship game at 2:30 p.m. College Sports Television will broadcast the title match live. The official athletics website of The Ohio State University – www.ohiostatebuckeyes.com – will provide live scoring for each match of the tournament.
Ohio State, which reached its highest seed in program history at No. 2 with a 6-1-3 league record, will welcome the Top 8 teams from the league, including 2004 regular season champion and No. 1 seed Penn State (10-0 Big Ten).
On Nov. 4, the Nittany Lions will open the quarterfinal round with a match against No. 8 Indiana at 10:30 a.m. Illinois, the No. 4 seed, will serve as the home squad in the next match at 1:30 p.m., facing No. 5 Northwestern. Since the initial tournament in 1994, the postseason setting has served as an exciting climax to each Big Ten campaign, often highlighted by upsets and thrilling tournament runs. In 2002, Ohio State entered as the No. 7 seed and knocked off two nationally-ranked opponents in sudden death to reach the finals where the Buckeyes handled Wisconsin, 2-1, to gain its first berth to the NCAA tournament.
Indiana was crowned 1996 champion in the last Big Ten tournament held in Columbus. Penn State owns the most postseason titles with three, while Michigan trails with two. Ohio State is joined by the Hoosiers, Minnesota, Wisconsin and 2003 Big Ten winner Illinois with one team championship.
