COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Big Ten Conference announced Sunday the draw for the 2003 Big Ten Field Hockey Tournament. The 15th ranked Ohio State field hockey team earned the No. 3 seeding in the tournament, which will be held Friday through Sunday at Bigler Field on the campus of Penn State University. The tournament champion receives the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA championships.

Ohio State will face No. 6 seed Northwestern at 3 p.m. Friday in the first round of the tournament. The Buckeyes finished third in the Big Ten regular season with a 4-2 record (12-6 overall) after defeating Michigan before falling to Michigan State. The Wolverines and Spartans tied with a 5-1 record in the Big Ten, earning co-Big Ten champs. Michigan clinched the top seed and a first-round bye in the tournament, because of a victory over Michigan State Oct. 17.

The single-elimination tournament will be begin Friday with the first round action at 10 a.m. (No. 2 Michigan State vs. No. 7 Indiana), 12:30 p.m. (No. 4 Penn State vs. No. 5 Iowa) and 3 p.m. (No. 3 Ohio State vs. No. 6 Northwestern). The semifinal games Saturday will be played at 11 a.m. (No. 1 Michigan vs. game 2 winner) and 2 p.m. (game 1 winner vs. game 3 winner). The championship game will be played at 1 p.m. Sunday.
