COLUMBUS, Ohio—Mitch Bergman, who is heading into his senior year with the Ohio State men’s soccer team as a midfielder, has been named a 2020 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, the conference office announced today.
To be eligible for the honor, Big Ten student-athletes must have a grade-point average of 3.7 or higher the previous academic year.
Bergman, an Ohio State scholar athlete in both 2018 and 2019, played in 18 games as a junior while playing 90 or more minutes in 14 of those games.
The Canal Winchester, Ohio, native is majoring in industrial and systems engineering.
As a team, the Buckeyes enjoyed great success in the classroom in 2019-20. Four Buckeyes earned degrees, 19 were named 2020 Ohio State Scholar Athletes and five were named Academic All-Ohio and 11 earned Academic All-Big Ten Honors.
