COLUMBUS, Ohio — Keita Bates-Diop has been named the Big Ten Conference Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday, following a pair of Ohio State wins last week.
In the 97-62 win over William & Mary last Saturday, Bates-Diop scored a career-high 27 points after an 18-point, nine-rebound effort against Michigan last Monday. For the week, Bates-Diop connected on 62 percent of his shots from the field (16-26), 50 percent from 3-point range (4-8) and 90 percent at the foul line (9-10). Against William & Mary, the Buckeyes made 10-consecuitve field goal attempts early in the second half, Bates-Diop made five of those buckets, all from inside the arc, to help Ohio State to a commanding lead.
D’Angelo Russell was the last Buckeye to earn player of the week honors when his efforts were rewarded Jan. 26, 2015. The Buckeyes have earned back-to-back conference awards after Kaleb Wesson was named Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Week Dec. 4.
Ohio State is back in action at 6 p.m. Saturday vs. Appalachian State in Value City Arena. The game will be televised by BTN.
