COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State baseball team dropped game one of a four-game series with Michigan State in front of a record 3,866 fans in attendance at Bill Davis Stadium Saturday night.

Justin Fry (Jr., Munhall, Pa.) and MSU’s Brian Murphy battled through 4-1/2 scoreless innings before Mike Kremblas (Sr., Carroll, Ohio) broke the draw in the bottom of the fifth with his fourth home run of the year. With two out, Kremblas took Murphy’s pitch over the 370-mark in left center field, scoring Jason Trott (Jr., Dublin, Ohio) who had doubled. Mike Lockwood (So., Powell, Ohio) led off the Buckeye seventh with a double and scored when Mark Carek (Sr., Bowling Green, Ohio) doubled to right. Carek was left stranded as Murphy retired the next three batters to keep OSU’s lead 3-0. Michigan State finally scored in the top of the eighth as Mike Wagner took Fry deep to center field for a two-run homer, his ninth of the season, cutting the lead to 3-2.

The Spartans tied the game in the top of the ninth as Joe Albaugh homered deep to right center field for MSU’s second round-tripper of the day. Fry gave way to Andy Lee (Jr., West Chester, Ohio) with two outs in the ninth and struck out Carlos Fernandez to end the inning. Mike Wagner was walked by Lee in the top of the tenth and stole second to move in to scoring position. Joe Kalczynski stepped to the plate and rapped a single to left field to drive in Wagner for the winning run.

OSU is now 34-14 (15-9) and the Spartans move to 25-24 (8-13). The series continues with a doubleheader beginning tomorrow at 1:05 p.m.
