COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Big Ten Conference released its sixth annual preseason honors list today in conjunction with the start of Big Ten Media Days at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place in Chicago. Two Buckeyes were among the 10 players chosen to the list. Both are juniors and both are captains of the team: quarterback J.T. Barrett and middle linebacker Raekwon McMillan.
McMillan, 6-2 and 243-pounds from Hinesville, Ga., and Liberty County High School, was Ohio State’s leading tackler as a sophomore in 2015 with 119 tackles. He was a finalist for the Butkus Award, a second-team All-American (Walter Camp) and first-team all-Big Ten.
Barrett is a 6-2, 222-pounder from Wichita Falls, Texas, and Rider High School. He is 15-2 as a starting quarterback and in those 17 games has averaged 302 yards of total offense (220 yards per game passing and 82 yards rushing) and accounted for 58 touchdowns. He was fifth in the 2014 Heisman Trophy voting when he led the Buckeyes to an 11-1 mark and to the Big Ten championship game.
A media panel chose the Big Ten’s honors list, which includes five players from the Big Ten East Division and five from the Big Ten West. Iowa and Northwestern joined Ohio State with a pair of honorees. The Hawkeyes were represented by senior quarterback C.J. Beathard and senior defensive back Desmond King, while the Wildcats saw junior running back Justin Jackson and junior linebacker Anthony Walker Jr. make the list.
