Final Stats

IOWA CITY, Iowa – An offensive onslaught led by Buckeye setter Taylor Sherwin powered Ohio State in a 3-0 sweep of Iowa inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena (25-19, 25-17, 25-22). The Buckeyes posted attacking percentages of .300 and .414 in the opening two frames as Sherwin divvied out assists on 36 of 40 OSU kills on the night.

Elizabeth Campbell paced Ohio State both offensively with 12 kills and defensively by digging nine balls. She swung .346 and added a pair of service aces and a block to total 14.5 points. Erin Sekinger was a weapon out on the pins as well, ripping eight kills of her own. Roaming the middle of the court was Taylor Sandbothe and Tyler Richardson, combining for 13 kills and six blocks (1s, 5a).

Freshman Luna Tsujimoto got the starting nod and provided eight digs before intermission. Meanwhile, Valeria León donned the libero jersey and accounted for seven digs.

Iowa’s largest lead of the entire match came at 10-8 in the first set following a Buckeye service error. Ohio State turned the tables quickly from there and captured 17 of the next 26 points to jump ahead with the 25-19 triumph. Sekinger bounced four kills on six errorless swings in the opening frame.

The Buckeye attack shifted into a higher gear for set number two, piercing the Hawkeye defense for a .414 hitting percentage. Five different OSU players posted three or more kills while Tsujimoto posted five digs. Ohio State led by as many as 10 points (19-9) in the dominating set.

Iowa would not go away with a fight, however, pulling even with the Bucks as late as 20-20 in the third set. The Hawkeyes dug 14 balls to slow down Ohio State’s offense … except for Campbell. She exploded for six kills while scooping up five digs in the final frame alone, willing the Buckeyes to a 25-22 clincher.

Ohio State is back at it again on Saturday, heading to Lincoln, Neb., to face the Huskers at 6 p.m. ET/5 p.m. CT. The match can be viewed online via BTN Plus.
