Columbus, OHIO – Ohio State stands eighth in the latest rankings toward the 2008-09 Learfield Sports Directors Cup, presented by NACDA each year to the most successful overall collegiate athletics program.

Nine Buckeye teams – women’s and men’s basketball, women’s and men’s gymnastics, men’s ice hockey, women’s and men’s swimming and diving, fencing and the NCAA runner-up wrestling squad – earned points toward the title during the winter sports season. Ohio State now has 638.80 points overall.

Stanford ranks first currently, followed by Minnesota, North Carolina, Michigan, Penn State, Florida, California and Ohio State.

The Buckeyes were 42nd after the fall competition season. Football and men’s soccer were among the fall sports earning points for the Buckeyes. The final rankings will be released June 26 after spring competition has concluded. For more information, visit .
