COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State senior swimmers Anita Beck and Samantha Cheverton are competing this week with the Buckeyes at their final Big Ten Conference championships. The pair helped the Buckeyes get off to a great start Wednesday by swimming the first two legs of the 800 freestyle relay that finished second and smashed the school record by nearly seven seconds with a time of 7:02.64.
“The 800 free relay was a statement swim for this team,” Ohio State third-year head coach Bill Dorenkott said. “This is most likely a Top 5 time in the country right now and I feel confident that this relay will get picked up for the NCAA championships. All four swimmers had personal relay split bests.”
It comes as no surprise that Samantha and Anita would stand out at the Big Ten championships, because they’ve been doing exactly that for four years now…in the pool and in the classroom. OhioStateBuckeyes.com caught up with the two of them this week before the team left for Indiana University, the site of the Big Ten championships.
Our fun little flippy camera found Samantha, a psychology major from Lachine, Quebec, cruising through a freestyle lap with a little added color commentary from Megan Detro.
And Anita, a biology major from Cincinnati, displayed perfect butterfly form with expert insight provided by junior Catherine Eitel.
