COLUMBUS, Ohio – Hunter Armstrong and Charlie Clark have been named to the United States’ 2021-22 National Men’s Team roster, USA Swimming announced Friday.
Criteria to be named to the USA Swimming National Team includes being one of six athletes with the fastest times in each individual Olympic event, from the combined results of all USA Swimming or FINA sanctioned competitions.
Armstrong, who most recently won gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the 4×100 Medley Relay, earned a spot on the team after swimming a time of 52.48 in the 100 Back at the 2020 Olympic Trials. His qualifying time is the second fastest among the six national team swimmers in the event. The junior from Dover, Ohio is one of 51 athletes who competed at the Tokyo Olympics to make the national team.
Clark recorded a U.S. National Team qualifying time of 15:04.37 in the 1500 Free at the 2021 Speedo Summer Championships in August to earn a spot on the roster. His time ranks third among the contingent of qualifying swimmers in the event and is almost 10 seconds faster than his previous personal best time that he swam at June’s Olympic Trials.
The Buckeye duo make their first U.S. National Team this year, joining a field of 34 total newcomers to the roster. Ohio State is one of 32 universities represented on this year’s roster.
