Andrea Braendli earns WCHA and NCAA Honors

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State University women’s ice hockey team earned some hardware today with Andrea Braendli earning the NCAA No. 2 Star of the Week and WCHA Rookie of the Week, powered by GoodWood Hockey, conference officials announced on Tuesday.

Braendli was stellar between the pipes for the Buckeyes this past weekend, stopping 50-of-50 shots in the series against St. Cloud State. The goaltender’s efforts were vital in the Buckeye’s 4-0 and 5-0 victories. Braendli earned back-to-back shutouts, which puts her tied for second in the WCHA with five. The freshman currently ranks second in the conference with a save percentage of .934%.

The Zurich, Switzerland native most recently was named the NCAA No.3 Star of the Week for her shutout performance over then No. 1 Wisconsin on January 11. In addition, this is the second time this season Braendli has been named WCHA Rookie of the Week, with her first coming after her performances against Minnesota State on Oct. 11-12, saving 55-of-56 shots in the series and recording her first career shutout.

The No. 9 Buckeyes host Bemidji State this weekend. Puck drop for the series opener is set for 6 p.m. on Friday.
