Alex Wright

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Alex Wright, hailing from Midlothian, Va., has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete for head coach Therese Hession and the Ohio State University women’s golf program. Wright is set to join the Buckeyes for the 2016-17 season.

“We are thrilled to add Alex to our team for the Class is 2016,” Hession said. “She is a solid player and a great young lady. Coach (Lisa) Strom and I look forward to continue helping Alex develop her game and grow as a person. Welcome to Buckeye Nation.”

Wright is a product of the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., and won the AJGA Winn Grips/Butch Harmon Boys and Girls Showcase Championship in December. She also qualified for the 2015 U.S. Girls Junior over the summer. In January, Wright placed fourth in the Harder Hall Invitational with scores of 70-75-72-72, just five strokes back from event champion and future Buckeye teammate Jessica Porvasnik. Additional impressive showings for the daughter of Frank and Terry include a 16th place effort in the 2015 Junior Orange Bowl and T-28th at the 2014 Junior PGA Championship.
