COLUMBUS, Ohio – After a sweep of No. 7/8 Miami over the weekend, Ohio State senior forward John Albert was named the CCHA Offensive Player of the Week, while junior Cal Heeter has been honored as the CCHA Goaltender of the Week. The Buckeyes shut out the RedHawks, 1-0, Friday before scoring five unanswered goals in the third for a 5-2 victory Saturday.

The Buckeyes have earned eight league player of the week honors in 2010-11, including three-consecutive offensive player awards. This is the second award for Heeter this season (Oct. 11) and the third of his career. This marks the first league weekly accolade for Albert.

In the sweep of the RedHawks, Albert led the Buckeyes with four points on two goals and two assists. He had the primary assist on the lone goal Friday in a 1-0 Buckeye win. Saturday he had the first helper on Brandon Martell’s game-tying goal in the third and then scored the go-ahead goal less than five minutes later. With time winding down he blocked a Miami shot at the Buckeye blueline and skated in alone for an empty-netter to seal the win.

With three points Saturday, Albert took the team scoring lead with 23 points, including nine goals and 14 assists. He is on a six-game scoring streak with 4-5-9 totals in the stretch. Saturday was his second two-goal game of the year and the third of his career. Albert, with 113 career points, has now hit the 20-point mark for the fourth time.

Heeter had a 1.00 goals-against average and .969 save percentage in the Buckeyes’ two wins over Miami combined. Friday he had 40 saves in a 1-0 Buckeye victory, marking his third career shutout. He had 13 saves in the first period, 11 in the second and then 16 in the third to preserve the Buckeye victory. Heeter and the Buckeye penalty kill were 6-for-6, including stopping a 5×3 for 57 seconds in the third. Saturday Heeter allowed just two power-play goals as the Buckeyes came from behind to win, 5-2. He had 13 saves in the second period and stopped all six shots he faced in the third.

Heeter dropped his goals-against average to 2.30 and raised his save percentage to .919 following the series. He has played every minute for the Buckeyes this season, with a 12-8-1 ledger.

Albert, Heeter and the Buckeyes, on a six-game winning streak and 12-8-1 on the year, head to Kalamazoo, Mich., this weekend for two games against No. 18 Western Michigan. The teams will meet at 7:35 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The Friday contest will be televised live on Comcast, with a rebroadcast on NHL Network from 12-2 p.m. Saturday.
