The weekend was an effort to connect the different eras of Ohio State women’s lacrosse — an effort that far exceeded expectations.

Nearly 100 former players, staff members along with family and friends took part in the Ohio State women’s lacrosse 20th anniversary celebration last month during the Thanksgiving weekend.

The weekend started out with a Saturday morning breakfast reception at the Varsity O club at Ohio Stadium prior to the Michigan game, with an on-field recognition prior to the start of the game.

At the breakfast, Kim McCalla (Lowe) spoke to the group about the importance of the day, why it was great having everyone together and the importance of staying involved with the program after your playing days.

After the thrilling double-overtime victory on the gridiron, guests proceeded to the Scioto Country Club later that evening for the anniversary banquet, which included a delicious meal, a slide show from the past 20 years, guest speakers and plenty of laughs, emceed by head coach Alexis Venechanos.

Speakers at the dinner included Stephani Schmidt, Megan Mirick and Gabby Capuzzi, who all shared their memorable moments while playing for the Buckeyes.

Schmidt specifically discussed how things were during the inaugural season and how much she has enjoyed seeing the program grow. Mirick talked about winning the ALC in 2003 and “legitimizing” the program while Capuzzi talked about her time playing for Coach Venechanos.

The night also included a silent auction with old jerseys, framed photos of memorable moments and apparel, including an autographed football by head coach Urban Meyer.

“Our anniversary weekend could not have gone better,” Venechanos said. “It was fantastic having so many of our former players and staff members back to celebrate 20 years of Ohio State women’s lacrosse. Hats off to my staff on an amazing job organizing and executing what was a fun and memorable weekend for everyone involved.”
