STORRS, Conn. – Carly Santoro scored a season-high 20 points and Makayla Waterman recorded her first career double-double on Sunday afternoon as Ohio State fell as No. 2 UConn 85-53.
Santoro scored 14 of her 20 points in the second half and made three three-pointers. Waterman also made a three-pointer as part of her 11 points and she grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds.
Adreana Miller was also in double-figures with 10 points while Dorka Juhasz chipped-in with six points.
Four Huskies scored in double-figures led by All-American Katie Lou Samuelson who scored 19 points.
UConn shot 58 percent in the opening half and forced 15 OSU turnovers in building a 49-19 lead. The Buckeyes came out of the locker room and scored 10 of the first 13 points in the second half thanks to threes by Miller and Santoto. OSU shot 40 percent and outscored the Huskies in the third quarter 22-19.
The Buckeyes turned the ball over just six times in the second half and seemed to settle in as the game wore on.
Ohio State head west for the first of two trips to the left coast this season as it will be play Sacramento State on Friday, Nov. 16 and the Stanford on Nov. 18. The game in Sacramento is slated for an 11:30 p.m. ET tip and the game on Sunday vs. Stanford will start at 4 p.m. ET.
