COLUMBUS, Ohio –The Ohio State men’s soccer team resumes competition this fall, during its traditional season, after a shortened campaign during the spring of 2021.
The 2021 Spring season was played after the 2020 Fall season was delayed by the Big Ten Conference because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Brian Maisonneuve will guide the Buckeyes to start his fourth season in Columbus as head coach when Ohio State plays host to Memphis and UAB in the Bert and Iris Wolstein Soccer Classic at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium Aug. 27 and 29, respectively.
The annual Wolstein Classic, now in its 15th year, is named for the family that first brought professional soccer to Ohio in 1979. The Wolstein’s are major contributors to Ohio State. Their generosity resulted in the naming of the field in their honor at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
Ohio State then travels to Bloomington, Indiana, to face Xavier (Sept. 3) and Creighton (Sept. 6) at the IU Classic.
Home games follow against Akron (Sept. 15), Cleveland State (Sept. 21), Maryland (Sept. 24) to start the Big Ten Conference portion of the 2021 schedule, and Bowling Green (Sept. 29) to round out the non-conference schedule.
The first road game in Big Ten regular-season play takes place at Northwestern Oct. 3.
Three additional home games vs. Wisconsin (Oct. 8), Penn State (Oct. 22) and Michigan (Oct. 26) along with road games at Indiana (Oct. 12), Michigan State (Oct. 17) and Rutgers (Oct. 31) complete the 16-game regular season.
Ohio State will play two exhibition games at home in advance of the Wolstein Classic. The Buckeyes will play Ohio Dominican Aug. 16 and Butler Aug. 21. Those games will start at 7 p.m. at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
Ohio State finished the 2021 Spring Season with a 3-6-1 record.
The spring roster produced 26 Ohio State Scholar Athletes while freshmen Laurence Wootton and Parker Grinstead were recognized as members of the All-Big Ten Freshman Team. Wootton garnered Big Ten Freshman of the Year and First Team All-Big Ten honors as well.
Broadcast information for the fall season will be released at a later date. Game times are subject to change.
