Buckeye Wrestling Hall of Famers list is Growing: Hall of Fame Guidelines

Our mission is simple: To set some well defined Hall of Fame criteria in place and to solidify alumni support for future wrestling alumni. There are many former Buckeye Wrestlers who have performed at an extremely high level during their collegiate and post collegiate careers that warrant entrance into the Most Prestigious Hall of Fame in college Sports- The Ohio State University. Our mission is to make sure these men earn their place among the All-Time greats. The most effective way to make this happen is to unify the many men who have sweat for the program. We want your involvement as we set up some well-defined criteria on what it “takes” to earn a spot into the Hall of Fame. We want to then provide a prioritized list of former student-wrestlers who based on CRITERIA will be next in line for our support. The criteria are attached. Please provide feedback within one week!

Alumni Tommy Rowlands and Steve Chappelear have been added to the Varsity O Board. We are very appreciative of the service Mike Disabato provided while serving on the Varsity 0 and know that Tommy and Steve will be great representatives for wrestling as well as the institution.

Recently, Dave Camaione was inducted into the Ohio State Athletic Department Hall of Fame for his lifetime of service to the sport of wrestling. The entire weekend was a memorable one for a former Buckeye Wrestler who gave much of his life to helping others. Check out the link below for some of the many great moments throughout the weekend. I was fortunate to get to know Dave very well throughout the process. He is a special alumnus and I couldn’t be more proud to support him in his nomination.

Season Preview – 2010-11 Opening Home Weekend

Late Fall is upon us which means some heated college football rivalries, the changing of the season and Buckeye Wrestling. The last 4 seasons the Bucks have finished 10th, 2nd, 2nd and 8th. Although we are proud of our Top 10 finishes, we are not satisfied and we understand you are not either. I have quickly learned that Buckeye Nation is about excellence. It is what we stand for as a staff and a program. Our stated mission is to “Build Life Champions”. 2nd is NOT the standard and our staff and student-athletes continue to work hard at building a “culture” that will result in the hanging of National Championship banners, college graduates and a community bettered by the wrestling program at Ohio State.

This season’s team will feature many new, young faces. With new and young comes the unknown. There are some things we know and some things we don’t know. We know we have talent at every weight. We know we have some young men that care about the Buckeye Wrestling tradition and building upon it. We know we will fight. What we don’t know is how we will handle the Big Ten battles that lie ahead as many of these young men haven’t been in too many of them. Our team read the Book “As a Man Thinketh” by James Allen recently. As a man thinketh, so he is. We need to keep these young Bucks minds strong! The only expectations on this team are the same on the previous teams…EFFORT. We expect every student-athlete to give all they have. Giving is crucial to any successful organization.

Our first major test will be this Sunday, November 21st when we face Pittsburgh (11:30am) and Nebraska (1:30pm) at St. Johns Arena. Both teams have some outstanding talent at several weight classes. Our starting line-up will feature the following student-athletes: 125-Stieber, 133-Paddock, 141-Palmer, 149-Nemec, 157-Sponseller, 165-Kusar, 174-Heflin, 184-Capone, 197-Magrum, 285-Hiles

You can follow us on the web or the Big Ten Network. Every match will be either web-streamed or Live on the BTN. Forget “The Office”, CSI and American Idol. It’s wrestling season and your Buckeyes are on. For times and what site we are competing on you can go to our home schedule on the link below. We also ask that you might follow us on Facebook and Twitter. This will be a great way to link with some old buddies as well.

Ohio Regional Training Center

Spear headed by Former Buckeye great, Tommy Rowlands and coached by freestyle expert Lou Rosselli and assisted by Plamen Paskalev (12x Bulgarian National Champ/2x Olympian), the Ohio RTC has quickly become the standard for Olympic Development programs in the USA. At the 2010 US Open, the OHIO RTC outscored all other freestyle programs winning 2 of the 7 weight classes and placing 3 in the finals with 2 others placing in the top 4.

This club is now a “PILLAR” in the building of a wrestling power at Ohio State. The Olympic Hopefuls are approved workout partners for the members of the Ohio State wrestling team. Thanks to the funding of many Alumni, successful businessman nationwide and friends of Ohio State wrestling, the Olympic Dream is running Strong at Ohio State. Attached you will find a link to the Ohio Regional Training Center as well as a Highlight Video and a Media Guide. I respectfully ask that you share this link with anyone who might be willing to help support the organization and those who might be inspired by the passion that each of these men show in their “single minded” focus of the pursuit of the Olympic Dream. The video is Great!

2010-11 Recruiting Class

As you all know the “life-line” of any program is recruiting. This year was the finest in my coaching career to date. I know what you are thinking…They haven’t won a match yet for the Buckeyes. I feel the same way, but I like our chances. Coach Rosselli, Jaggers and Pucillo did a great job of cultivating some strong relationships with these young men and their families. This class is a combination of some great Ohio talent along with the best out of Ohio.
