ORLANDO, Fla. – The Ohio State Men’s tennis team will face the Tar Heels of North Carolina on Thursday evening in the NCAA Quarterfinals at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
Entering the quarterfinals, the Buckeyes come in as the top-seeded team and a record of 32-2. Ohio State defeated 16-seed Columbia on Saturday May 11 to pumch their ticket to Orlando. Meeting the Buckeyes is a Tar Heels team that has defeated Navy, Georgia and No. 8 USC on its way to Orlando.
Ohio State last faced the Tar Heels at the 2018 ITA Indoor National Championships, beating UNC 4-3 in a thriller. Ohio State and UNC were No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, in the nation at the time. JJ Wolf, John McNally, Kyle Seelig and Hunter Tubert all captured wins in the victory over UNC, all four are returning players in 2019.
Ohio State is 3-0 vs. ACC opponents in 2019 with wins over Wake Forest, Virginia and Notre Dame and is 8-1 all-time against North Carolina.
This is Ohio State’s 16th NCAA Quarterf nals appearance and the fourth-consecutive. The Buckeyes defeated Mississippi State last year in the quarterfinals. Ohio State is eeking the program’s third-consecutive NCAA semifinal and the sixth overall. The Buckeyes finished runner-up in 2009 and 2018 which are the program’s top two finishes.
