Two sets of Ohio State senior student-athletes were recognized by Scott Van Pelt on ESPN SportsCenter’s #SeniorNight segment for March 16. A group of eight Buckeye men’s hockey players and wrestling duo were given the shout-out by SVP.
The eight members of the Ohio State men’s hockey senior class – Wyatt Ege, Miguel Fidler, Ronnie Hein, Tanner Laczynski, Sam McCormick, Carson Meyer, Matt Miller and Gordi Myer – saw their season end as it was preparing to host TTUN in a Big Ten Tournament semifinal game. The squad, with a 20-11-5 record, was set to make a fourth consecutive NCAA appearance, making the Class of 2020 the first in program history with four NCAA trips (including a Frozen Four berth in 2018). In addition to its NCAA trips, the group captured the 2019 Big Ten regular season title and had two runner-up finishes in the conference, with 87 wins.
Kollin Moore and Luke Pletcher are senior captains of the Ohio State wrestling squad and were both ranked No. 1 nationally in their weight class entering the NCAA Championships, originally scheduled to occur this week before the COVID-19 cancellation. Both Buckeyes were coming off of Big Ten individual titles (March 7-8) and looking to get their hands on an NCAA crown for a perfect career conclusion. The tandem posted a combined 50-1 record this season, earning distinction as the favorites to win their respective weight class championships.
