COLUMBUS, Ohio – Brandon Wynn and Philip Onorato, members of the Ohio State men’s gymnastics team, both qualified for the 2010 VISA Championships finals Wednesday night at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn. Wynn, the 2010 NCAA champion on rings, posted a career-high 88.700 in the all-around to end the qualifying round in third place. The two Buckeyes will compete at 7 p.m. Friday in the finals for a roster spot on the U.S. Men’s Senior National team.

Wynn, a senior this fall, continued where he left off at the 2010 NCAA Individual Championships by claiming the top performance in the rings event with a 16.0 score. He posted Top 10 scores in four of the six events, including career-highs on floor (15.1) and parallel bars (15.2).

A 2010 All-American, Wynn held the lead after the first three rounds of competition and sits in excellent position to not only make his second U.S. National team, but also is in consideration for the 2010 World Championships Oct. 16-24 in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

“Both Philip and Brandon represented the Buckeyes extremely well last night at these championships,” said head coach Miles Avery. “They both performed all of their routines to the best of their abilities and that is all this coach would ask of them.  They have trained so hard this summer and it showed tonight with both of them easily qualifying on to Friday night finals. Brandon though really out did himself and established he is clearly one of USA’s best gymnasts by finishing third in the all around.  He also re-established his dominance in this country on his best event by winning the rings again. I am so very proud of the way these Buckeyes competed tonight.”

Also a 2010 All-American, Onorato posted a career-high 14.85 on floor, which tied for 11th overall at the elite event. A rising junior, Onorato competed on three other events including rings, vault and parallel bars.

The U.S. Men’s Senior National team for the 2010 World Championships in Rotterdam will be announced following the conclusion of the meet.
