COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio State women’s volleyball team (12-17 overall, 3-12 Big Ten) earned a 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-22) victory over Iowa (14-15, 6-11) Friday night in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Buckeye Katie Dull posted a match-high 19 points in the victory with a match-high 15 kills, one ace serve and a career-high three solo blocks. Iowa’s Katie Kennedy had a team-high 10.5 points with eight kills and five assist blocks.

Iowa opened set one with a Kennedy kill. Two Hawkeye errors and a Dull kill gave Ohio State a 3-1 lead. A Kennedy kill made it 3-2. Buckeye kills from Dull and Allie Schwarzwalder opened the lead to three at 5-2. At 18-15, a Dull kill and an Iowa error gave the Buckeyes a 20-15 lead. An Iowa kill by Megan Schipper and one from Dull moved the score to 21-16. Iowa, with a Kiley Fister kill, a Catherine Smale-Laura Kremer block and an OSU error, cut the lead to two at 21-19. Buckeye kills from Schwarzwalder and Kaila Calhoun put the Buckeyes ahead, 23-19. A Kremer solo block made it 23-20. Schwarzwalder, with a kill, made it 24-20, with Ohio State serving set point. Ohio State won the set, 25-20, with a Calhoun-Schwarzwalder block. The Buckeyes hit .239 for the set to .111 for the Hawkeyes.

Two Iowa errors opened set two to give Ohio State a 2-0 lead. A Kennedy kill and an OSU error tied the set at two. Tied at eight, an Ashley Hughes kill, a Kristen Dozier-Hughes block and a Hawkeye error gave Ohio State an 11-8 lead. Iowa cut the lead back to one at 14-13 before a Calhoun kill and a Hawkeye error made it 16-13, Ohio State. Leading, 19-16, a Dull kill and two Susan Halverson ace serves made it 22-16. An OSU error and a Hughes kill made it 23-17. A Kennedy kill made it 23-18. A Hawkeye error gave Ohio State set point at 24-18. A solo block by Dull ended the set at 25-18 to give Ohio State a 2-0 lead in the match. The Buckeyes hit .207 for the set to .000 for Iowa.

Tied at five in set three, Iowa took a 9-5 lead with a Smale kill, two Smale-Kennedy blocks and a Schipper kill. Ohio State cut the lead to one at 9-8 with kills from Kelli Barhorst and Dozier and a Hawkeye error. A Fister kill and a Hawkeye error made it 10-9. A Kremer kill and a Dozier solo block moved the score to 11-10 Iowa. The Hawkeyes took a 12-10 lead off an OSU error. Kills from Dozier and Barhorst tied the set at 12. Six ties later, the set was 19-all. A Dozier kill and a Dull solo block gave Ohio State a 21-19 lead. Iowa cut the lead to one at 21-20 with a Kremer kill. Dull, with a kill, made it 22-20, OSU. An Iowa block by Kremer and Aimee Huffman cut the margin to one at 22-21. A Schipper-Kennedy block tied the set at 22. A Dull kill made it 23-22, Ohio State. A Hawkeye error gave the Buckeyes a 24-22 lead and serving match point. An ace serve by Hughes ended the set at 25-22, to give Ohio State a 3-0 sweep of the Hawkeyes. The Buckeyes hit .267 in the set to .233 for Iowa.

Ohio State hit .238 for the match to .106 for Iowa. The Buckeyes had a 41-34 advantage in kills and a five-to-two margin in ace serves. Ohio State gave up six service errors to four for the Hawkeyes. Defensively, the Buckeyes had a 50-40 margin in digs with Buckeye Chelsea Noble recording a match-high 19. Each squad collected nine team blocks in the match. Iowa’s Kennedy posted a match-high five assist blocks in the contest. At setter, Fister posted a match-high 28 assists for Iowa while OSU’s Hughes recorded 25.

The Buckeyes continue on the road and will face 12th-ranked Minnesota (23-6, 13-4) at 1 p.m. CT in the Sports Pavilion.
