COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio State women’s volleyball team (11-16 overall, 2-13 Big Ten) dropped a 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-15) decision at No. 19 Michigan (21-6, 9-6) Wednesday night in Cliff Keen Arena. Buckeye Katie Dull posted a match-high 12 points in the match with 10 kills, an ace serve and two assist blocks. Michigan’s Karlee Bruck recorded 11.5 points and Juliana Paz 10 points for the Wolverines. Bruck had nine kills, two solo blocks and one assist while Paz recorded 10 kills in the contest.

Tied at one after a Dull kill in set one, Michigan kills by Alex Hunt and Beth Karpiak and an OSU error gave the Wolverines a 4-1 lead. Michigan held the lead and at 19-13, a Kristen Dozier block and a Wolverine error cut the lead to four at 19-15. Michigan scored the next five points to reach set point at 24-15. A Betsy Hone kill stopped the set point at 24-16. The Wolverines, with a Megan Bower kill, won the set, 25-16. Michigan hit .364 for the set to .031 for Ohio State.

Michigan opened set two with the first four points. A Dull kill and an OSU error made it 5-1. A Wolverine error, a Kelli Barhorst-Dull block made it 5-3. At 6-3, a Dull ace serve, a Michigan error and a Barhorst-Dull block tied the set at six. Michigan kills from Alex Hunt, Karpiak and Megan Bower gave the Wolverines a 9-6 lead. Michigan held a 19-12 lead before scoring the next five point to take a 23-13 lead. A Dozier kill stopped the run at 23-14. Michigan reached set point at 24-13 with a Hunt kill. A Dull kill stopped the set point at 24-14. Michigan closed out the set at 25-14 with a kill to take a 2-0 lead in the match. The Wolverines hit .389 in the set to -.033 for the Buckeyes.

The Wolverines, with an Ohio State error and a Karpiak-Lexi Zimmerman block, gave Michigan a 2-0 lead. Michigan never trailed in the set and reached set point at 24-15 with a Courtney Fletcher kill. A Zimmerman kill ended the set at 25-15 to give the Wolverines a 3-0 victory in the match. Michigan hit .344 in the set to .062 for Ohio State.

For the match, Michigan hit .366 to .021 for Ohio State. The Wolverines had a 47-23 margin in kills while each team recorded two ace serves. Michigan gave up eight service errors to four for the Buckeyes. Defensively, Ohio State had a 42-36 advantage in digs with OSU’s Chelsea Noble recording a match-high 12. At the net, Michigan had a 7-5 edge in team blocks. Karpiak posted a match-high four blocks (one solo, three assists) for Michigan. At setter, Zimmerman had 32 assists in the contest while OSU’s Hone recorded 16.

Ohio State returns to St. John Arena Saturday for a 7 p.m. match against Michigan State (13-12, 5-9).
