COLUMBUS, Ohio-Jeremy Wurtzman, a junior on the Ohio State men’s tennis team, lost 7-5, 6-4 in the semifinals to Phil Stolt of Illinois in the 2002 ITA Midwest Regional IV Champioship in Madison, Wis., Tuesday.

Wurtzman and Stolt faced-off in Chattanooga, Tenn., at the 2002 ITA All-American Tournament Oct. 11. Stolt defeated Wurtzman in round three of the main draw 7-5, 6-3.

Wurtzman left Madison with an impressive 4-1 championship record. In the 2002-03 preseason, Wurtzman is currently ranked No. 21 in the nation and has a combined tourney record of 6-2 this fall.

Ty Tucker, Ohio State men’s tennis head coach, said Wurtzman played well throughout the tournament.

“We have to find a way to beat this guy,” Tucker said. “He (Phil Stolt) has a strong serve and we only had one break point throughout the entire day, which is out of character for Jeremy.”

The Buckeyes will begin play in their third tournament of the 2002-03 preseason in Toledo, Ohio at the Toledo Invitational, Friday-Sunday.
