Wright enjoys another great afternoon, wins 60m hurdles
COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio State women’s track and field team completed action Saturday at the Indiana Relays in Bloomington, Ind.
In the 60m hurdle finals, Letecia Wright came out on top with a first-place finish time of 8.49 while Alana Gray came in third at 8.73. Favours finished third in the 60m finals at 7.56.
Shaniqua McGinnis had a solid afternoon with a first-place finish in the 200m dash (unseeded) with a time of 25.70 and a third-place performance in the 400m dash at 56.29.
Emily Thompson took fourth in the 800m invitational in a time of 2:09.97 while Jordan Jennewine and Ashley Jones took third and fourth, respectively, in the 800m run with times of 2:14.40 and 2:16.20.
In the 5000m run, Sarah Foster took third place with a time of 17:24.08 while Ellen Birmingham was fifth at 17:28.04.
On to the field events where Ohio State turned in a couple notable finishes. Maggie Mullen finished fourth in the shot put at 13.41m while Kelcey McKinney was fifth in the triple jump (11.18m).
The 4x800m relay team of Jennewine, Jones, Jewelisa Thompson and Kesha Brooks took third with a time of 9:13.18 in the finals. Meanwhile, the 4×400 team of Favours, Caldwell, McGinnis and Wright also took third with a time of 3:46.48.
The Buckeyes, led by Ayrizanna Favours’ triumph in the 400m Dash Invitational, qualified a host of runners for competition Saturday afternoon inside Gladstein Fieldhouse. Favours’ time of 54.96 edged former Indiana star Stacey Clausing by one one-hundreth of a second, setting a Big 10 season high mark in the process.
Sophomore Letecia Wright qualified first in the 60m Hurdles at 8.53, while teammate Alana Gray followed a 10th of a second behind in third.
Jordan Jennewine impressed in the 800m, qualifying second with a time of 2:13.37, improving on her previous career-high time by more than five seconds. OSU qualified two other runners for the 800m final Saturday, junior Ashley Jones and sophomore Kesha Brooks. Jones took fifth with a time of 2:15.92 as Brooks finished in seventh place at 2:16.84.
The 200m dash preliminaries saw Wright qualify in fourth position at 24.90, while Shaniqua McGinnis sprinted her way into the fifth spot for the 400m Dash finals with a time of 57.01. Junior distance runner Emily Thompson took third in the 3000m Run Invitational, finishing behind Indiana’s Wendi Robinson and Pasca Cheruiyot of Missouri State with a time of 9:54.24.
