COLUMBUS, OH The nation’s top women’s track and field teams set their sights on New York City this weekend for the New Balance Collegiate Invitational. At the end of day one, Ohio State is hanging with the best of them. The Buckeyes, on the strength of two top five finishes in the 500m dash, put on an outstanding performance in the Big Apple Friday night, scoring 16.00 points, good enough for a sixth place tie with No. 19 BYU, No. 17 North Carolina and No. 4 Oregon.

Ayrizanna Favours and Ashley Caldwell earned 12 points in the 500m for the Lady Buckeyes, thanks to second and fifth place finishes, respectively. A blistering time of 1:12.58 put Favours .53 seconds off of the first place mark set by Seton Hall’s Clarrise Moh. Caldwell narrowly beat out Villanova’s Makalia Griffith for fifth with a run of 1:14.30.

Letecia Wright was consistent as usual, securing the other four Buckeye points on the night with a fifth place finish in the 60m hurdles. Her time of 8.28 is the second best in the Big Ten this year.

No. 12 Arkansas is the overall leader at the end of the first session with a score of 34.83. No. 25 Baylor sits in the second position with 30.00 points, followed by No. 2 Tennessee, top ranked Texas A&M and Connecticut.
