COLUMBUS, Ohio Behind the doubles point and wins at four singles spots, the No. 35 Ohio State women’s tennis team downed Rice, 5-2, in a non-conference match in the Ohio State Varsity Tennis Center. Ohio State moves to 7-5 this year (1-0 Big Ten). Rice falls to 9-6 (0-0 Conference USA).

“That was a very good Rice team we beat today,” Chuck Merzbacher, Ohio State head coach, said. “It felt like they competed well and we answered the bell. We really needed a match like this before playing South Florida this weekend.”

Julie Chao posted Rice’s second point, rallying to defeat Buckeye junior Kirsten Flower in a super tiebreaker, 4-6, 7-6 (6), 1-0 (12-10).
