COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team faces off with the Raiders from Wright State at 5 p.m. Friday at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. The meet will be a co-ed dual meet with the men’s team.

A Look at The Raiders
Wright State improved its record to 4-2 after closing out 2008 with a win over Tampa, 113.5-54.5, on Dec. 13. Prior to that, the Raiders competed in the Miami Invitational, taking eighth place.

Sophomore Krystyna Wieczerzak and freshman Molley Pipkorn lead the Raider team. Wieczerzak has collected nine individual wins this season, while Pipkorn has six. On the diving end, Stevi DiMasso has two individual wins for the Raiders.

Buckeyes Finish Fourth at Ohio State Invite
Ohio State concluded 2008 with a fourth-place finish at the Ohio State Swimming and Diving Invite on Sunday, Dec. 7, at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. The Buckeyes finished with 434 points, while the reigning Big Ten champion, Minnesota, took first.

Sophomore Samantha Cheverton had a successful meet, finishing second in the 200-yard backstroke, while breaking two school records in the 100 butterfly (54.78) and 100 backstroke (55.31). Sophomore diver Kristen Asman was runner-up in the platform diving event with a score of 304.95.

Ohio State Exemplifies Academic Excellence
At the conclusion of the 2008 fall quarter, 17 of the team’s 23 swimmers, or 74-percent of the team, recorded at least a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) or higher. Among those, juniors Megan Alexander and Farriss Blaskovits and freshman Jenna Hillier recorded perfect 4.0 GPAs for the quarter.

Cheverton Picks Up NCAA Qualifying Times
Samantha Cheverton recorded two NCAA “B” cut times for the Buckeyes in the first half of the season. The native of Lachine, Quebec, recorded qualifying times in the 200 backstroke (1:57.32) and 500 freestyle (4:49.39).

Davis and Alvarez to Red-shirt 2008-09 Season
Senior Chelsea Davis, the 2008 NCAA three-meter diving champion and sophomore Bianca Alvarez, the NCAA runner-up to Davis, will each be red-shirting the 2008-09 season.

The Buckeyes travel to Bloomington, Ind., for their first Big Ten dual meet of the season. Ohio State takes on Indiana and non-conference opponent, Missouri, in a tri-meet at noon Jan. 17.
