COLUMBUS, Ohio Ohio State women’s soccer coach Lori Walker announced the addition of two more student-athletes who will attend Ohio State University and compete for the Buckeyes this fall: Lauren Amyx, from Saint Ursula Academy in Cincinnati, and Karin Sendel, from Kiryat Tivon, Israel.

The addition of these two players increases to eight the number of new student-athletes on the team. Previously announced was the addition of four forwards, a combination midfielder/forward and a defender. Sendel will join the corps of Buckeye midfielders while coaches expect to utilize Amyx in a number of positions.

M Lauren Amyx Cincinnati, Ohio
Ohio Elite Soccer Academy; Saint Ursula Academy

Lauren played for the powerful Saint Ursula Academy team that won consecutive Ohio High School Athletic Association Division I state championships in 2007 (going 21-1-2) and 2008 (20-0-3) … the unbeaten season in 2008 was the first in school history … Lauren earned first-team all-conference honors in the GGCL in 2008 and was an all-Cincinnati Enquirer and all-southwest Ohio honorable mention selection as well … the fourth-leading scorer in the conference, Lauren was also a WCPO/McDonald’s Student-Athlete award winner … a member of the Ohio Elite Soccer Academy from 2002 through 2009, Lauren was on the Olympic Development Program state team from 2005-07 and she played on six Ohio state cup championship teams … her team was a three-time USYS Region II finalist, winning the title in 2005 when it also advanced to earn third-place at the USYS Nationals … hoping to pursue a career in broadcasting and journalism, Lauren is a fan of travelling and big cities and would like to live in Chicago someday … she is the daughter of Matt and Cindy Amyx and has a younger sister, Abby.

Coach Lori Walker: “Lauren was a late addition to this class, and we are not quite sure where she will play in our system. She has speed, quickness, a strong work rate and versatility to play a couple different positions.  These traits will give her a fighting chance to contribute.”

M Karin Sendel Kiryat Tivon, Israel
Israeli Women’s National Team; Maccabi Holon

Karin, like several of the other 2009 Ohio State recruits, has a resume filled with significant international soccer experience … a member of the Israeli U19 national team five years between 2003 and 2007, Karin most recently has been a member of the Israeli women’s national team … as a member of her high school/club team, Maccabi Holon, Karin has contributed to her team winning a high schools championship and also to winning four championships and four “cups” in the Israeli women’s league … her teams regularly participated in the champions league, a league of all champions from throughout Europe … Karin was a two-time Maccabi Holon team captain and she was also a two-time team captain for the Israeli U19 team … Karin’s greatest sports thrills are “winning titles after working really hard for them” … the daughter of Moti and Gilbert Sendel, Karin has one sister, Shiran.

Coach Lori Walker: “Karin brings some more international flavor and national team experience to this class. Her skill set, vision, play-making ability and final pass are among her strengths.  We anticipate she will have a heavy contribution in 2009 in our midfield.”
