COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State sprinter/hurdler Letecia Wright was named Track Athlete of the Week Wednesday by the Big Ten Conference, her second AOW award in as many weeks.
The junior’s first-place time of 13.07 in the 100m hurdles at the Drake Relays last weekend is currently the fifth-best NCAA Division I time this season, the top performance in the Big Ten and No. 5 all-time at Ohio State. The Baltimore native was head-and-shoulders above the rest of the field, as Illinois freshman Tamika Robinson was the closest challenger, finishing second in 13.36.
Wright also teamed with Christina Manning, Christienne Linton, and Ashley Galbraith for a third-place finish in the 100m Shuttle Hurdle final, crossing the finish line in 54.85. The Scarlet and Gray improved upon its preliminary effort by nearly four seconds to capture a hard-fought bronze.
The Buckeyes are back in action this weekend at home when they host the 25th annual Jesse Owens Track and Field Classic at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus, April 30-May 1. Admission is free.
