COLUMBUS, Ohio With a berth to the finals of the U.S. Olympic Trials on the line, Tommy Rowlands, volunteer assistant coach for the Ohio State wrestling team, will try to defend his title at the 2008 U.S. Senior Men’s Freestyle Championships Saturday at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The No. 1 seed at 120 kg/264.5 pounds, Rowlands, who is coached by fellow Buckeye assistant Lou Rosselli, and the remaining Top 8 seeds in the other six freestyle weight classes begin action at noon ET Saturday. 

J.D. Bergman, who just completed his career at Ohio State with a heavyweight national runner-up finish, also will compete at the U.S. Senior Freestyle championships in the 96 kg/211.5-pound qualifier bracket.

Joining Bergman in the freestyle qualification tournament are Ohio State sophomores Lance Palmer and Reece Humphrey. Palmer, a two-time All-American, will compete in the 66 kg/145.5 weight class, while Humphrey will participate in the 60 kg/132.25 bracket. 

Action for the qualifiers begins at 11 a.m. ET Friday.
