COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State, behind a 33.5 point performance by Stacey Gordon (Sr., Oshawa, Ontario), defeated No. 21 Georgia Tech, 3-0 (30-26, 30-28, 30-28) in the final match of the Georgia Tech Invitational. OSU, now 6-0 on the season, finished the Invitational with a 2-0 mark while Georgia Tech (2-5) was 2-1. The Buckeye win stopped a 26-match home winning streak for the Yellow Jackets. For Georgia Tech, Lynnette Moster had a team-high 18 points with 18 kills with Lauren Sauer contributing 15 points with 14 kills and two assist blocks. Gordon’s two-match offensive output of 59 kills in six games earned her All-Tournament Most Valuable Player honors. Joining Gordon for OSU was Danielle Meyer (Fr., Cincinnati, Ohio) and Marisa Main (So., Louisville, Ky.). Also named to the team were Jayme Gergen and Laura Kuhn of Georgia Tech, Kate Duchek of Xavier and Anne Morrow of Tennessee Tech.

George Tech held an early 4-1 lead over Ohio State in game one but the score stayed close with eight ties to reach 18-all. A Buckeye block by Briana McCarthy (So., Beaver Dam, Wis.) and Gordon and a Gordon kill put OSU ahead, 20-18. OSU held the lead with a Gordon kill reached game point at 29-25. A Buckeye error cut the lead to 29-26, but Gordon’s 13th kill of the game made it 30-26, Ohio State.

Game two saw Georgia Tech open game two with a 5-1 lead. The Yellow Jackets held a slim lead until a Georgia Tech error tied the game at 22. OSU took a 25-23 lead but Tech kept the game close tying the score at 26, 27 and 28. A Yellow Jacket error set game point for the Buckeyes at 29-28 and Gordon’s 22nd kill of the match made it 30-28, giving OSU a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Buckeyes opened game three with a 3-0 lead. OSU held a 10-6 lead before Georgia Tech tied the game at ten. Tied at 21, Georgia Tech took the lead, 22-21, with a Moster kill. The Yellow Jackets held a 28-25 lead before a Gordon kill cut the margin to 28-26. An OSU solo block by Maya Mapp (Sr., Washington, D.C.) cut the lead to 28-27. A Yellow Jacket hitting error tied the game at 28. With back-to-back kills by Gordon, OSU completed the comeback to win game three, 30-28, and take the match, 3-0. Gordon finished the game with her second double-figure kill game of 11. For the game the Buckeyes had a 62-58 margin in kills while outhitting the Yellow Jackets, .338 to .309. OSU produced two ace serve to one for Georgia Tech while OSU had eight service errors to three for Tech. Defensively, the Buckeyes had a 51-40 margin in digs with OSU’s Rebecca Kastein (Jr., Mt. Lebanon, Pa.) picking up a match-high 12 digs for the Buckeyes. At the net, Georgia Tech had a 6-4 advantage in team blocks with Gergen picking up a match-high six assists for the Yellow Jackets.

The Buckeyes return home next week for a Tuesday match against Youngstown State at 7 p.m. in St. John Arena.
