COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s volleyball squad opens the 2003 season ranked 18th in the USA TODAY/American Volleyball Coaches Association Division I Coaches Top 25 Preseason Poll. The Buckeyes finished the 2002 season ranked 13th with a 21-11 overall record and advanced the NCAA Regional semifinals. OSU will face four Big Ten squads that are ranked in the Top 25. These include #6 Minnesota, #11 Penn State, #17 Wisconsin and #25 Michigan State.

Ohio State begins preseason practice, Wednesday, Aug. 13 in preparation for opening the 2003 season against Ball State at 7 p.m., Wed., Sept. 3 in St. John Arena. The Buckeyes return two starters from last season. Stacey Gordon (Jr., Oshawa, Ontario) and Stephanie Higgins (So., Biggsville, Ill.). Gordon was a first team AVCA All-American, the Big Ten Player of the Year and the Ohio State Female Athlete of the Year last season. Higgins was named to the Freshman All-Big Ten team in 2002.
