COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio State women’s volleyball team (10-15 overall, 1-12 Big Ten) fell, 3-1 (25-23, 13-25, 25-19, 26-24) to Wisconsin (16-9, 6-7) Friday night in St. John Arena. Buckeye Katie Dull posted a match-high 24.5 points with 22 kills, a solo block and three assist blocks. Wisconsin’s Brittney Dolgner had a team-high 19.5 for the Badgers with 16 kills, two solo blocks and three assist blocks.

Tied at one in the first set, two Kelli Barhorst-Dull blocks, a Badger error and a Barhorst kill gave Ohio State a 5-1 lead. OSU expanded the lead to five at 18-13 and 20-15 before Wisconsin, with a 7-2 run, tied the set at 22 with a Dolgner kill. A Janelle Gabrielsen ace serve gave the Badgers a 23-22 lead. Barhorst, with a kill, tied the set at 23. Wisconsin reached match point at 24-23 with an Audra Jeffers kill. The Badgers won the set, 25-23, with a Caity DuPont kill to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Wisconsin hit .213 in the set to .229 for Ohio State.

Ohio State scored the first four points of set two with two Sarah Mignin ace serves, a Kristen Dozier kill and a Badger error for a 4-0 lead. Wisconsin cut the lead to three at 5-2 with a Jeffers kill but could come no closer. Ohio State continued to expand the lead, reaching set point with an Allie Schwarzwalder kill at 24-13. The Buckeyes won the set, 25-13 with a Dozier-Kaila Calhoun block to even the match at one set each. Ohio State hit .522 in the set to .074 for the Badgers.

The Buckeyes broke a 2-2 tie in the third set with kills from Dull and Barhorst for a 4-2 lead. A Dolgner kill made it 4-3. Two Badger errors gave Ohio State a 6-3 lead. Wisconsin kills from Jeffers and Dolgner and an Elle Ohlander block tie the set at six. Tied at 10, a Dolgner kill and an OSU error gave Wisconsin a 12-10 lead. The Badgers expanded the lead and reached set point at 24-19 with a Dolgner block. A Buckeye error ended the set at 25-19 to give Wisconsin a 2-1 lead in the match. The Badgers hit .156 for the set to .053 for the Buckeyes.

Wisconsin opened set four with two Dolgner kills and an OSU error for a 3-0 lead. Buckeye kills from Dull, Barhorst and Dozier tied the set at three. Tied at seven, an Ohlander kill and three OSU errors gave Wisconsin an 11-7 lead. Trailing, 20-16, three Badger errors and a Dull kill tied the set at 20. A Dull kill gave Ohio State a 21-20 lead. Dolgner responded with a kill to tie the set at 21 and a second kill to give Wisconsin a 22-21 lead. The Buckeyes tied the set at 22 with a Betsy Hone kill. A Barhorst-Hone block made it 23-22 Ohio State. A Badger error gave Ohio State set point at 24-22. Wisconsin responded with a Dolgner-Morgan Salow block to stop the set point at 24-22. A Jeffers-Salow block stopped the second Buckeye set point to tie the set at 24. Two Ohio State errors closed give Wisconsin a 26-24 set win and the 3-1 victory in the match. The Badgers hit .206 for the set to .133 for Ohio State.

For the match, Ohio State outhit the Badgers, .199 to .171 and had a 52-50 margin in kills. Each squad recorded four ace serves and each team gave up seven service errors. Defensively, Ohio State had a 56-52 advantage in digs with Ohio State’s Chelsea Noble posting a match-high 15. At the net, the Buckeyes edged Wisconsin, 14-12, in team blocks. Ohio State’s Barhorst (one solo, five assists) and Wisconsin’s Salow (six assists) shared match high honors with six total blocks each. At setter, Hone had a match-high 42 assists for the Buckeyes while Wisconsin’s Nikki Klingsporn had 26 and Gabrielsen added 16.

Ohio State returns to St. John Arena at 8 p.m. Saturday to host Northwestern (8-16, 2-11). The Wildcats lost at No. 20 Michigan 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-18) Friday. The match will be carried live by the Big Ten Network.
