COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State (10-12 overall, 4-10 Big Ten) women’s volleyball team suffered a 3-1 (31-29, 30-18, 14-30, 30-20) loss at Indiana (10-15, 3-11) Saturday night. Ohio State’s Stacey Gordon (Jr., Oshawa, Ontario) scored a team-high 14 kills against the Hoosiers with Amanda Miller (So., Littleton, Colo.) adding 13. Gordon’s 14 kills gives her 1,806 for her career as she becomes OSU’s career kills leader passing previous leader Holly O’Leary (1987-90) with 1,802. IU’s Melissa Brewer had a match-high 16 kills with Katie Pollom and Christina Archibald adding 12 each.

Indiana held the lead in game one during most of the game. Leading, 27-25, a kill by D’wan Shackleford (Sr., Newark, Ohio) and an Indiana error tied the game at 27. A second IU error gave OSU a 28-27 lead. Hoosier Monique Pritz tied the game at 28 with a kill. OSU’s Miller gave the Buckeyes a 29-28 lead with a kill. A Buckeye error tied the game at 29. An OSU error and a Pollom kill ended the game at 31-29. Indiana hit .355 for the game to OSU’s .176.

The Hoosiers took a quick 4-0 lead in game two. Indiana continued to build on the lead to a 12-point margin, winning the game, 30-18. The Hoosiers hit .303 in the game to .057 for the Buckeyes.

Game three saw the Buckeyes break a two-all tie with a six-point run. A kill by Briana McCarthy (Fr., Beaver Dam, Wis.) and an Indiana error started the run. Two ace serves by Jackie Schardt (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.), an Indiana error and a block by Katherine Grant (So., Nashville, Tenn.) and Gordon gave the Buckeyes an 8-2 lead. OSU continued to build the on the lead to win the game, 30-14. OSU hit .390 in the game to .026 for the Hoosiers. Tied at three-all in game four, a Pritz kill and two aces from Archibald opened a 6-3 lead for Indiana. The Buckeyes tied the match several times, the last at 11, before Buckeye errors put Indiana ahead, 13-11. The Hoosiers built on the lead, winning the game, 30-20, to capture the match. Indiana hit .448 for the game to OSU’s .207.

For the match, Indiana outhit the Buckeyes, .267 to .178. The Hoosiers had a 56-53 margin in kills while Ohio State had an 11-8 advantage in aces. Gordon had a career-match-high of six aces for OSU. Defensively, the Buckeyes had a 47-37 lead in digs with Rebecca Kastein (So., Mt. Lebanon, Pa.) collecting a match-high 14 digs and Gordon adding 11. At the net, the Hoosiers held a 16-5 margin in team blocks. IU’s Pollom had a match-high nine assist blocks in the match.

Ohio State returns home to St. John Arena to begin a four-match homestand. The Buckeyes open at 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 14 against Michigan State (17-7, 9-5).
