COLUMBUS, Ohio – The OhioState (13-16 overall, 7-13 Big Ten) women’s volleyball team dropped a 3-1 (30-17, 26-30, 30-16, 30-26) decision at Michigan (22-9, 10-9) Saturday to end the season for the Buckeyes. OhioState’s Danielle Meyer (Sr., Cincinnati, Ohio) and Katie Dull (Fr., Solon, Ohio) and Michigan’s Lyndsay Miller shared match-high honors with 17.5 points each. Meyer had 16 kills, a solo block and an assist block while Dull recorded 16 kills, one ace serve and an assist block. Miller had 14 kills, a solo block and five assist blocks.

 

The Buckeyes opened game one with two Dull kills and a Briana McCarthy (Sr., Beaver Dam, Wis.) to take a 3-1 lead. Michigan responded with a seven point run including two Katie Bruzdzinski kills, one from Beth Karpiak, two blocks from Megan Bower and Karpiak along with an OSU error. The Wolverines closed out the game with a kill from Bruzdzinski for a 30-17 win. Michigan hit .441 for the game to .095 for the Buckeyes.

 

Game two saw OhioState take a 2-0 lead with kills from Kristi Hunter (Fr., Roblin, Manitoba, Canada) and McCarthy. Trailing, 4-1, Michigan rallied to tie the game at five. At seven-all, two OSU errors and a Miller-Veronica Rood block gave the Wolverines a 10-7 lead. Michigan expanded the lead to six at 16-10. The Buckeyes closed the lead to 22-20 when kills from Meyer and Kristen Dozier (So., SandySpring, Md.) tied the game at 22. Tied a 25, a Kaila Calhoun (Fr., Elkhart, Ind.)-Dull block gave OhioState a 26-25 lead. A Dull kill and a Michigan error gave the Buckeyes a 28-25 lead. A Bower kill made it 28-26. A Dull kill set game point at 29-26. Hunter, with a kill, ended the game at 30-26 to tie the match at 1-1. OhioState hit .261 for the game to .213 for Michigan.

 

Michigan opened game three with the first six points of the game and never trailed. A Buckeye error set game point at 29-15 for Michigan. A service error stopped the game point at 29-16. An OSU error ended the game at 30-26 to give Michigan a 2-1 lead in the match. The Wolverines hit .152 for the game to -.140 for the Buckeyes.

 

Tied at 18 in game four, a Bruzdzinski kill and three from Miller gave Michigan a 22-18 lead. A Dozier kill and blocks from Dozier-Hunter and McCarthy-Dozier cut the lead to one at 22-21. Tied at 23, a Karpiak kill, an OSU error, a Karpiak-Bruzdzinski block, a Lexi Zimmerman ace serve and a Bower kill opened up a 28-23 Michigan lead. Buckeye kills from Dozier and Meyer cut the margin to three at 28-25. Michigan reached match point at 29-25 with a Zimmerman kill. A McCarthy kill stopped the match point at 29-26. The Wolverines ended the game with a Karpiak kill at 30-26, to win the match, 3-1. Michigan hit .326 for the game to .261 for OhioState.

 

For the match, Michigan hit .281 to .114 for OhioState. The Wolverines had a 62-56 advantage in kills and an eight to four margin in ace serves. Zimmerman posted a match-high four ace serves. The Wolverines gave up 10 service errors to four for the Buckeyes. Defensively, Michigan had a 78-68 margin in digs with Stesha Selsky recording a match-high 28. At the net, The Wolverines edged the Buckeyes in team blocks, 11 to 10. OSU’s Dozier (six assist blocks) and Michigan’s Miller (one solo, five assist blocks) Bower (six assist blocks) shared match-high honors with six total blocks each. Michigan’s Zimmerman recorded a match-high 48 assists in the contest while OSU’s McCarthy had 42.
