COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State (23-7 overall) women’s volleyball team has received an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship and is seeded 11th of the 16 seeded teams. The Buckeyes will open play Friday at 5 p.m. against Belmont (24-6) at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville, Ky. Host Louisville (25-6) will face Middle Tennessee (26-7) at 7:30 p.m. The winners will face off Saturday (time tba) for a spot in the Seattle (Wash.) Regional, Dec. 8.
Belmont University is located in Nashville, Tenn. The Bruins won the Atlantic Sun Tournament Championship with a 3-0 (30-22, 30-24, 30-11) win over Jacksonville. Belmont was second (8-1) in conference regular season play. Belmont has won its last five matches.
Louisville (Ky.) won the Big East Tournament Championship with a 3-2 (26-30, 25-30, 30-24, 30-17, 15-12) win over Notre Dame. The Cardinals finished second in conference play with a 13-1 mark. Louisville has won its last 17 matches.
Middle Tennessee (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) won the Sun Belt Tournament Championship with a 3-0 (30-28, 30-20, 30-22) win over Florida International. The Blue Raiders finished in a three-way tie in the East Division of the Sun Belt with a 14-3 record. Middle Tennessee has won its last seven matches.
Ohio State, ranked 19th in the most recent CSTV/AVCA Division I Top 25 Coaches Poll, finished fourth in the Big Ten with a 13-7 mark. The Buckeyes have won their last eight matches, all by 3-0 scores. The streak includes wins over No. 3 Penn State and No. 14 Purdue.
